Background Information on Stephen L. Miles
As one who began his law practice with no employees and through the years built it into one of the largest personal injury / criminal defense firms in Maryland and who then merged in 1999 with an even larger firm I an tell you something is lost without that one on one close personal relationship with your clients which just cannot be maintained in a large firm.
The reason I recently left the law firm of Saiontz, Kirk, & Miles, to once again form the Law Offices of Stephen L. Miles, because of the realization that the happiest and most productive years of my legal career were when I was a sole practitioner. The reason is fairly simple – close personal client contact where I could achieve personal self-satisfaction. An atmosphere where I knew every client and each and every case in close detail. Even the finest large firms just cannot do this. This also makes for better formulae in getting the best results possible for your clients.

Legal Background
As indicated Steve is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law. While attending law school, in addition to working fulltime in the retail world, he held numerous law clerk positions and in fact was the first Law Clerk in the States Attorneys Office in Baltimore County where he drafted all of their criminal indictments.
Upon graduation from law school the States Attorneys Office recruited Steve. Unlike the vast majority of new hires at this position Steve was assigned to the Circuit Court level and for three years prosecuted major felony cases. During this time he prosecuted hundreds of cases and tried well over fifty jury trials
Upon leaving the States Attorneys Office Steve then went to work with well-known defense attorney, Russell J. White. Mr. White, knowing a good thing, shortly thereafter formed the law firm of White & Miles. After several years Steve struck out on his own forming The Law Offices of Stephen L. Miles. For the next twenty years Steve grew his firm into one of the largest and most highly regarded personal injury and criminal defense firms in the state of Maryland. In 1999 Steve merged his firm with the law firm of Sainotz and Kirk and the law firm became known as Saiontz, Kirk, & Miles.
Steve, missing the close personal contact, that he first had with his clients in his early years decided to resign from Saiontz, Kirk, and Miles, and reopen The Law Offices of Stephen L. Miles.

Articles
Mr. Miles has had numerous articles written about him and his law practice in the Baltimore Sun, USA Today, The City Paper (ten page feature article), and the Daily Record.
The Daily Record, the leading legal newspaper that all lawyers and Judges in the state subscribe to for their legal news actually assigned a reporter to spend several days with Mr. Miles and write a feature article about him and his legal work. After spending time with and observing Mr. Miles, the Daily Record has this to say about the Law offices of Stephen L. Miles.
- “ His life is ruled by an old-fashioned work ethic”
- “He demonstrates a surprising professionalism”
- “ His manner of speaking is clear, frank and intelligent.”
- “ He knows exactly what he is doing”
- “ Miles is articulate and well prepared.”
- Within his firm, “ there is an excellent division of labor among secretaries, lawyers, and paralegals”
- Again, the efficiency is startling ……. The man is focused, careful, and professional.”
- In describing what takes place around the office The Daily Record has this to say. “ There’s no chaos, no frantic searches for files, notes and client names. This man is not winging it”
- In referring to his DWI practice the writer states “ The Law Offices of Stephen L. Miles represents 50 drunk drivers in court every month. Miles represents the vast majority (at present Mr. Miles will be representing each one personally).
- “ And he can pull out all stops in front of a jury if he has to. Shortly before Christmas, Miles won a jury trial in Howard County Circuit Court. His client had been arrested for driving while intoxicated based upon a field sobriety test – he failed to talk the proverbial straight line. The client insisted, however, that he’d had only two beers before the police pulled him over.
Miles subpoenaed a waitress who had served his client the two beers and even the restaurant manager who produced the check to confirm the story. And on cross examination of the arresting officer, Miles made it clear to the jury that his client had been pulled over on the left hand shoulder and forced to walk the line next to the speed lane, a frightening and difficult task for anyone, regardless of sobriety. The jury acquitted.
